As Jumoke walked into the interview room, her own footsteps against the tiled floor made her heart pant twice as fast. This was the final stage after two successful interview stages but that didn’t limit her angst. She really desired this place. After what seemed like forever but barely ten minutes, one of the interviewers asked, “What makes you tick?” Her heart froze. “What does that even mean?” she thought to herself. She mumbled the wisest thing that came to her head but she knew the interviewer wasn’t convinced.

Today is July 31, 2020, until now I haven’t shared an article with you, my dear reader, for the month of July. That is totally against our terms of engagement. The deal is at least one article each month. I contemplated on giving an excuse/sharing my constraints but I said “no.” This is a no-excuse zone. What precedent am I laying? What brand am I building? Definitely not a slothful one. Even if it is 11:59 pm Nigerian time, I will pant through the finish line. A short piece is better than no piece.

What makes me tick? It means what makes me behave in a certain way. A simple answer is God. He is my motivator. I remember whose child I am before taking actions. Just like He places His word above His name I strive to do the same too. I gave a word of one article a month, so shall it be. I made a promise, it has to be fulfilled. However, when I realise I am unable to fulfil a promise, I try to inform the other party on time and it must be truly outside my reach. Let your yea be yea and your nay be nay. Till next time, ask yourself (please share with me in the comment section) “What makes you tick?”
